I am having a little trouble on this.. -.- What is upwelling? Why is it important?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Upwelling is the rising of seawater, magma, or other liquid. It is important because it can bring nutrients from below to creatures higher in the water might need. It also helps algae growth.
