It claims connecting and then it shows blank, a friend tried the same at her house and it takes forever to load

Yup. your lagging. Most of the time, this can be resolved by reloading or logging out and back in again. If this doesn't solve it. Log out and wait a few minutes (read a book or go outside and do something fun).
