memorandum suggesting 3 actions the US and its European allies might have taken to prevent WWII.
Do you know what caused wwII?
Lots of different ways to go with this one. WWII was an extension of WWI in many ways. The overall historical issue with both wars is the end of empire. Countries wanted to have control of colonies and people in other parts of the world. So Japan, Germany, Britain, France, Italy, US, etc. all competed at carving up parts of Africa, Asia and South America. They did WWI and some empires fell apart. But the victors still hadn't figured out that empire wasn't the thing anymore. So they punished Germany, for instance. Germany was supposed to pay for the damage in WWI. So WWII could have been avoided if they had tried to work with Germany and make sure their economy didn't tank. Hitler took advantage of the anger felt by most Germans to gain support for his dictatorship. They did set up the League of Nations after WWI. That was supposed to help avoid war. The US never officially became part of the League. So there you have another recommendation. The US could have joined. But the LoN was less powerful than the UN. And the UN hasn't prevented many wars so... Also, Americans tried to stay out of foreign affairs after WWI. They didn't want to fight WWI but got dragged in late. After the horrors of that war they really didn't want to get involved. If they US had engaged with world affairs in general, perhaps war could have been avoided. I think I gave you 3
