OpenStudy (maranda0622):

The perimeter of a triangle is 48 inches and the sides are in the ratio of 3:4:5. Find the length of the longest side. 4 9 16 20

OpenStudy (rebecca):

Any ideas?

OpenStudy (maranda0622):

9 maybe

OpenStudy (rebecca):

All the other sides would be less than 9 then. But not even 9*3 is 48. So thats incorrect.

OpenStudy (maranda0622):

im not sure tbh

OpenStudy (rebecca):

You are saying that 9 is the longest length. But its not because even if all the sides were 9 the perimeter wouldnt be 48.

OpenStudy (maranda0622):

ohhh 16

OpenStudy (rebecca):

Nope. Remember that all the other sides will be less than 16. 16 is only the length of the LARGEST side.

OpenStudy (maranda0622):

so its 4 then?

OpenStudy (rebecca):

is 4+4+4=48? no
