Basically EVERY student holds homework as a burden, no matter how much they say they want to learn or they like work or they like being busy. AT SOME POINT EVERY STUDENT WISHES THEY DIDN'T HAVE TO DO IT AND FEELS PRESSURED AND STRESSED. And Obviously that means that THERE IS DEFINATELY SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE SYSTEM!!!

OpenStudy (mahoganie.carson):

I like it sometimes i depends on what i'm doing ^_^

Mehek (mehek14):

Not essays but Math I don't mind ;P

ILovePuppiesLol (ilovepuppieslol):

i like history

OpenStudy (rebecca):

I like to learn math

OpenStudy (quickstudent):

But come on, all of you get stressed out from it at some point, don't you??

OpenStudy (rebecca):

Petitioning against homework is a loss battle, my friend. Learning is good for the brain, you thank your teachers later.

OpenStudy (quickstudent):

@umerlodhi You just said that you only like science

OpenStudy (mahoganie.carson):

I do sometimes get stressed out because of it

umerlodhi (umerlodhi):

I lied i love everything so much homework is life <333

OpenStudy (quickstudent):

@Rebecca You completely missed the point. What I'm saying is that learning is naturally an enjoyable process, and give positive energy, good health, mental awareness, and so much more. But when we all know that this is the case, then why do so many students find school to be so burdening and stressing? It's because the system is made to work only for those few that learn very fast, have a mind that loves busy work, and is interested in any subject you give them. They make it in a way so that every single student is expected to learn at the same pace, in the same way, and be interested in in the same things, which is not true! Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that those kids who are just too lazy to do anything are okay. What I'm saying is that people need a system that works for them, not robot system!

OpenStudy (rebecca):

Sorry i misunderstood. Sounds like a great idea!

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

School is stressful for everyone whether they are the top learners in the class or the low learners in the class. Its normal to be stressed out, but too much is not normal. A lot of stress happens when a student procrastinates or does not pay attention to the teacher on how to do certain assignment(s). Not every student can learn at a fast pace, but anyone can adjust by taking time aside and putting extra time on something they are not quite sure about. If your struggling with math, put some time into doing some problems that you are struggling and that will help you learn. Ask your teacher what you can do to keep up if your behind in school.

OpenStudy (photon336):

It's going to be stressful for everyone at some point. I never liked busy work, but usually people who say that are either not challenged by the material, or feel that the class is going at too slow of a pace for them. that implies work that's just for the sake of work that doesn't help you understand the material. From this, I'm going to assume that you feel it's a waste of your time. I somewhat agree, but I feel that changes need to be made. I always felt that HW assignments should have fewer problems but more difficult ones, one's that require you to think and put the concepts together. I think a huge problem is that there's just not enough of this in class: going over the solutions to difficult problems and really coming together and trying to figure out the best way to solve them. Another thing would be to have assignments that incorporate concepts from earlier on, well, in math this is less of an issue. In college I had a professor that used something called an I clicker, and would post us questions, on basic problems that were relevant to the lectures in class and we would use our clicker to vote on an answer. This was helpful because it gave you a sense right away if you were actually getting the main ideas in class. The much easier problems and basic concepts need to be made clear in class which you must get a grasp on, but for a subject like math, everything builds on itself in some way or another. that's also something that doesn't happen very often. Some courses go too fast cover too much material, and there's too little engagement. The reason why I like this site is because you can actually collaborate with an expert and get professional step by step help whenever you need it. Yeah you could have a solution to a problem in front of you, but if you're lost, you're lost, you need someone to explain it to you. yes, the point of homework is to help solidify your understanding of the concepts, but if you feel it's not serving that end goal then I would definitely let your teacher know hey the homework is too easy or hey the homework is too hard or the concepts aren't clear in the lecture. But in some way, yeah the system has its flaws, but to some degree you need to take an active role in determining what you know and what you don't know and what's the fastest most efficient way for you to learn it. that's the best advice I have.

OpenStudy (study.geek.123):

homework is really stressful, take it from me, but i cant live without it

OpenStudy (baru):

Does the system have flaws? Yes, learning pace and style is a very personal thing, and an ideal education system would be tailored to suit individual needs. But is an ideal system "stress free? ".No, stress is where growth is, no matter what your passion is, once you start getting deeper into it, you will find it stressful. All said and done, @Photon336 puts it well, the best approach is to take responsibility for your own learning.

OpenStudy (study.geek.123):

@baru that is very true we all need to know how to deal with stress, because life IS stressful

OpenStudy (baru):

yep! but i do sympathize with OP, homework can be mind numbing pointless work that dulls active students. I was just trying to point out that 'stress free' is not a good thing.

OpenStudy (fortytherapper):

...Alright?

OpenStudy (aravindg):

Lol homework is nothing actually. Join engineering and you will realize there are greater things to be stressed about.

OpenStudy (ashleyisakitty):

I agree, the public education system is very poorly designed and is extremely systematic in a way many people don't thrive in.

OpenStudy (anaise):

Well, I only went to private schools >: I was provided homework, assignments from gifted class, intensive classes and it was actually tiring. Unfortunately, I was a kid who think she'd be killed if her hw wasn't finished. Hey, I look forward to my future. This one school >▪< we didn't get hw unless it was to help or study. We actually did it :D

OpenStudy (anaise):

But now that I'm in my senior year, it's so stressful

candycove (candycove):

I don't mind Science.

OpenStudy (fortytherapper):

I don't mind Science (Astronomy) myself either, since that's why I'm going to school xD I guess it's two things I get out of this: - It depends on the subject. Of course no one person is going to find joy in every single subject, because that's not what they are wanting to do. I think focusing on what the person wants to do in highschool would work (How they do in college. We take a couple basics, and then we work on our major; what we want to do) - This also seems like the 'You need school' v. 'You don't need school' to succeed, with the latter half being the emphasized here.

I really don't mind homework. When there is too much for me too do, that's when I get stressed.

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

Too much hw that are all due at around the same time...that is indeed stressful. Time can either be at your side or not. That's why every adult that gives me advice says, "Use your time wisely!"

imqwerty (imqwerty):

People like to do stuff that they have interest in. Everybody have their own interests and home work is not interesting for everyone and you cannot make someone else like something so easily. So I don't really think that this is the system's fault. More interesting things get higher priority on the to-do list and home work is mostly kept last on this list =]

OpenStudy (devonhoward15):

They have different classes for diffrent paces... like honors and AP classes and they have a class for those that find it difficult to learn

likeabossssssss (likeabossssssss):

this is true

OpenStudy (riff-raff):

I don't really see how this is relevant to Open Study feedback.

OpenStudy (anaise):

I just don't like homework
