Part A: In your own words, describe the relationship between the temperature of the city and the sale of sweaters in the city. (5 points) Part B: Describe how you can make the line of best fit. Write the approximate slope and y-intercept of the line of best fit. Show your work, including the points that you use to calculate slope and y-intercept. (5 points)

someone help please

OpenStudy (roxy.girl):

Is the temperature going up or down? The dots?

OpenStudy (hoothoot23):

OpenStudy (hoothoot23):

@Roxy.girl

OpenStudy (roxy.girl):

at 1 it is 12 at 5 it is 10.. it is going down...

OpenStudy (hoothoot23):

can you just tell me the answer

OpenStudy (hoothoot23):

just answer the part a and part b questions

OpenStudy (hoothoot23):

ill be your fan and give you a medal @Roxy.girl

OpenStudy (roxy.girl):

I am looking..

OpenStudy (hoothoot23):

okay thank you so much @Roxy.girl

OpenStudy (hoothoot23):

@rebeccaxhawaii can you help

OpenStudy (hoothoot23):

@Cas_fangirl_14 can you help

OpenStudy (cas_fangirl_14):

My dad just told me to get off the computer. I won't be able to help. :(

OpenStudy (hoothoot23):

aww

OpenStudy (hoothoot23):

can someone please help

OpenStudy (roxy.girl):

@mathmate

OpenStudy (mathmate):

@Roxy.girl I would love to help her, but CoC forbids us from giving direct answers, which is what she wants. She will need to learn how to find the lines of best fit, and she will also need to tell us the different ways she has learned (or she is expected to know), because there are different ways to find a line of best fit. Some are more accurate than others.

OpenStudy (hoothoot23):

whos coco

OpenStudy (hoothoot23):

wait @mathmate

OpenStudy (hoothoot23):

then can you explain it to me @mathmate

OpenStudy (hoothoot23):

@peachpi will you help

OpenStudy (mathmate):

As I said, you need to tell us what you have learned, have you done graphical method, or by summations?

OpenStudy (hoothoot23):

no i havent

OpenStudy (hoothoot23):

i know that the line of best fit goes through the dots

OpenStudy (hoothoot23):

it doesnt have to touch all of them just as much as it can touch

OpenStudy (hoothoot23):

and i know when then temperture is higher in *C there are not as much sweaters that are bought

OpenStudy (hoothoot23):

so i just need help with part b

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Basically the line of best fit will pass through the scattered plot in the best way possible, such that the sum of the square of the vertical distance of each point from the line is a minimum. There is a specific way of calculating the line of best fit, or regression line, sometimes it is called. Here's a video that explains how that can be done. IF this is not even close to what you have learned, then you would draw the line that roughly follows the dots, visually. For example, |dw:1463790601264:dw| Most of the time, you would want the line to have the same number of points on each side, and about the same number of point at one end as the other. There are other approximate methods, median-median method - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ng5-UG5EY14
