hello just some quick help on story writing :] I know that the openstudy community has tons of wonderful writers so I would love to get advice on writing. I myself am a writer and am always looking to learn new techniques. I will be writing a short story book and a chapter book over the summer (so much writing I know xD). Any tips and advice will be helpful. Thank you in advance!
1. Write the story you’d most want to read. Don’t write a story just because you think it might be a bestseller. 2. Begin with character. Make her/him flawed and believable. 3. Give that character a compelling problem. Your character has to have something that’s going to challenge her/him, torment her/him and propel her/him forward. 4. Make things happen! You can have the greatest characters in the world, and write beautifully, but if nothing’s happening, the story falls on its face pretty quickly. 5. Stick with it the project. You’ll be tempted to give up a thousand and one times. Don’t. Finish the story.
I agree completely with @smartnerd1111 For me, i would say write about something you're passionate about, get attached to your characters and their story, this automatically makes your writing better and it'll be easier to finish! Besides your readers will be able to tell if you're writing because you actually want to or just for more shallow reasons.
@smartnerd1111 Thank you for the advice and tips! :] Number one is like a must for me lol. If I never see myself reading it then I don't write it. Flaws are the most beautiful things for me to write within characters and I definitely agree with making them believable. That third tip is my favorite. I love problems in stories that move the character forward. Love the fourth tip as well! This is a must for me! I am one to become lazy and quickly give up.
@southernbelle90 I definitely agree with you. Attaching yourself to your characters and story makes it more realistic in my opinion. When I become really attached to a character or a story I start writing as if all of it were happening to me and I was simply writing a diary or autobiography. Thanks for the advice! :]
If you have been writing for a while say an hour or so, and you start to get frustrated, try reading a book for a few minutes and see if that gives you any ideas. Hope this helps :)
@southernbelle00 Oops I tagged you wrong. My eyes mistook the first 0 for a 9 O.O yikes.
@DogLover11 Yes!!!! OMG I love reading books ahead of writing or after I start so I can get ideas along the way or before. Thank you!! :]
I used to write short stories. It was really fun. What's your book going to be about?
