OpenStudy (sofialearner101):

need help with a geometry question!

OpenStudy (sofialearner101):

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

check what sides have not proportionale bc. two similar triangles need have the corresponding sides being proportionale - ok ?

OpenStudy (sofialearner101):

How do i check if they're proportional?

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

do you see what side with what side is correspond ?

OpenStudy (sofialearner101):

yes

OpenStudy (sofialearner101):

it seems like the triangle on the right is 2.5 more than the one on the left except side EF (which corresponds to BC) but thats probably not the right answer lol

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

so for example 10 with 12,5 than you try dividing them 10 2 ---- = ---- 12,5 2,5 so you get you get a proportionalitie between these two sides of 2/2,5 yes ?

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

so now try these other two cases please

OpenStudy (sofialearner101):

ok so for the other side it would be 8/10.5 = 1.6/5.25???

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

yes so do you think that these need being corrected ? or you will check the third sides too ?

OpenStudy (sofialearner101):

15/18.75 = 7.5/7.5 is the third side right?

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

no i thikn this not is solved right above from you - please check your work

OpenStudy (sofialearner101):

i divided 15 by 2 and then i divided 18.75 by 2.5

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

how you simplifie two numbers - ? first try getting their factor and divide them by this common factor - or not ?

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

so do you see it what number will be common factor for 15 and 18,75 ?

OpenStudy (sofialearner101):

3?

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

yes but bc. every two numbers ending in 5 this is more easy to factoriz them by 5 used - or not ?

OpenStudy (sofialearner101):

yeah but would it be 15/18.75 = 5/3.75??

OpenStudy (sofialearner101):

i divided both by 3

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

ok but please try it divided by 5 firstly - ok. ?

OpenStudy (sofialearner101):

15/18.75= 3/3.75?

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

how you got 3,75 here too same above ?

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

i think above you missed anything - yes ?

OpenStudy (sofialearner101):

i divided 15 by 5. then i divided 18.75 by 5. was that wrong?

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

this is right but above these how you have got in denominator 3,75 too ? do you see it now where ?

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

where the numerator is got 5

OpenStudy (sofialearner101):

yeah all the denominators have 5 in them

OpenStudy (sofialearner101):

but i don't see what side matt needs to fix... all of them are different

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

yeah but would it be 15/18.75 = 5/3.75?? and below to this you wrote 15/18.75= 3/3.75? do you see it now ?

OpenStudy (sofialearner101):

oh yeah i think i accidentally divided 18.75 by 5 before

OpenStudy (sofialearner101):

thats why both are 3.75

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

do you can correct it please ?

OpenStudy (sofialearner101):

Ok i have 15/18.75. the common factor for both of them is 5. So: 3/3.75. I don't see what is wrong. You said i had to divide them by 5

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

no - this is now correct sure so but when you divide them by 3 what will get ?

OpenStudy (sofialearner101):

if i divide them by 3 it would be 15/18.75 = 5/6.25

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

exactly so now you can tel me where is needed correcting the sides proportion - yes ?

OpenStudy (sofialearner101):

i don't know which one is wrong... their proportionalities are all different

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

ok for you can understanding it right when two triangles are similar the corresponding sides need being proportionale and using thses proportionalitie of sides we can proving that these triangles are similar sure so you can writing in this case of proofe that 8/10,5 = 10/12,5 = 15/18,75 so can you check where is wrong these equalitie between these fractions ?

OpenStudy (sofialearner101):

the third one?

OpenStudy (sofialearner101):

does he need to fix the third sides?

OpenStudy (sofialearner101):

you there?

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

so in the first case we get 2/2,5 = 0,8 second case was 15/18,75 = 3/3,75 = 0,8 3rd case was 8/10,5 = 4/5,25 = 0,761 so do you see it now where is the wrong proportionalitie ?

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

Sofia are you here please ?

OpenStudy (sofialearner101):

oh ok so the wrong one is side AC/DF

OpenStudy (sofialearner101):

yes?

OpenStudy (sofialearner101):

@jhonyy9 so how can he fix that sides

OpenStudy (sofialearner101):

@jhonyy9 i still need help please

OpenStudy (sofialearner101):

matt needs to change side DF to 10 units instead of 10.5 right

OpenStudy (sofialearner101):

so that all the sides are in 0.8 proportion ratio

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

no all the sides need have this proportionalitie of ratio - yes but how you see and how we get there are two corresponding what not have this proportionalitie of ratio so this you need correct it ok. ?

OpenStudy (sofialearner101):

what? i don't understand. what do i need to correct?

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

this ratio of these two sides where we not got this ratio equal by 0,8

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

8/10,5 need being equal 0,8 how can you correct it ?

OpenStudy (sofialearner101):

i already told you... change side DF from 10.5 to 10. so that 8/10 = 4/5 = 0.8

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

ohhh - sorry i dont saw it - yes this is the right step sure

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

so do you understand it now these all clearly ?

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

than was my pleasure good luck bye bye

OpenStudy (sofialearner101):

yes i got it! thank you so much for helping me @jhonyy9
