Times when Bilbo Baggins doubts himself in the book? will give medal and fan!
In The Hobbit, Biblo doubts himself many times. At the beginning of the story, poor Bilbo faints at the idea of going on a quest with the dwarves. H has to be put to bed with a drink. Gandalf makes a speech to the dwarves saying that he has chosen Bilbo and that was that, but even Gandalf seems a little unsure why. You can see more doubt in the multiple situations when Bilbo screws up,. like when he leads the party into the troll traps. He is an overall burden to the dwarves, can't travel as quickly as they can, and ends up having to be carried part of the way. He also whines a lot during the first part of the trip. I think he really starts to show his own worth when he survives the spider encounter and names his sword. There is lots of evidence of Bilbo's self-doubt when in the presence of Thorin Oakenshield. Thorin makes many disapproving comments that cause Bilbo to doubt himself in the quest. Thorin finds Bilbo to be nothing but a burden on this journey. Bilbo's self-doubt is especially evident when he decides to turn back and go home on his own. At this point, the goblins spring their trap. Bilbo does not perform well, but it's at this point that he begins to show some strength in the tests to come, like when he is isolated from the others and meets Gollum.
