OpenStudy (nellynell2142):

Help please! Find the solutions of the system y=x^2+3x-4 y=2x+2

OpenStudy (nellynell2142):

rishavraj (rishavraj):

see u got 2 equations for y ....so u just need to equate them...

OpenStudy (mathmale):

I agree. That would be "elimination by substitution." Also available to you would be "elimination by addition / subtraction." Please act on rishavraj' advice.

OpenStudy (nellynell2142):

How would I do that?

rishavraj (rishavraj):

so \[x^2 + 3x - 4 = 2x + 2 \]

rishavraj (rishavraj):

now u can solve for x easily @NellyNell2142

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Set the first equation = to the second. This will eliminate y. Again, rishavraj is correct. can you, Nelly, now find the value of x that satisfies this equation?

OpenStudy (nellynell2142):

yes thanks! @mathmale @rishavraj
