An airplane flies in the path shown by the vector $\overrightarrow{CD}$ on the graph below. What is the magnitude and direction of $\overrightarrow{CD}$? (1 unit represents 1 mile) 53° east of south for 5 miles 42° south for 8 miles 26° north for 7 miles 72° south of west for 6 miles

OpenStudy (jtug6):

Ok so do you first know how to calculate the magnitude of the given vector?

OpenStudy (peace420):

no

OpenStudy (jtug6):

Ok the thing is you need to split the vector into it's x and y components. This will make it into a triangle which you can then apply the pytagorean theorem (c^2 = a^2 + b^2). So i'll draw that real quick
