PLEASE HELP!

OpenStudy (ayyyylien):

the equation of line AB is y=-1/3-1. Write an equation of a line perpendicular to line AB in slope-intercept form that contains point (4,-5)

Mehek (mehek14):

Perpendicular slope = Negative reciprocal

Mehek (mehek14):

So negative of -1/3 = 1/3 reciprocal is 1/3 = 3/1 = 3 so the slope is 3 Now we need the rest of the equation y = 3x + b Plug the ordered pair -5 = 3 * 4 + b Can you solve for b?

OpenStudy (ayyyylien):

-5=12+b move the 12 7=b ?

Mehek (mehek14):

-5 = 12 + b Subtract 12 -5 - 12 = b

OpenStudy (ayyyylien):

Oh whoops I did that wrong So it's -17?

OpenStudy (ayyyylien):

I'm sorry I'm terribly bad at math in general

OpenStudy (ayyyylien):

is that correct?

Mehek (mehek14):

Lol it's alright ^_^ Yes - 17 so b = -17 Now we have the whole line y = 3x - 17

OpenStudy (ayyyylien):

That's what I would put as the equation?

Mehek (mehek14):

Yes :)

OpenStudy (ayyyylien):

Thank you!(:

OpenStudy (ayyyylien):

Can I borrow you for one more question?

Mehek (mehek14):

Can you wait a few mins? o.o Gotta do something quick :P

OpenStudy (ayyyylien):

I sure can (: I'll make a new question and tag you (:

Mehek (mehek14):

Alright ^_^
