many people came to America as indentured servants, which meant they had already bought several colonies while living in England. were motivated to convert the natives and do missionary work. paid for their voyage by working a set number of years. made their living by capturing blacks as slaves for the New World.
i thought we just did this?
Indentured servitude was a labor system in which people paid for their passage to the New World by working for an employer for a fixed term of years. It was widely employed in the 18th century in the British colonies in North America and elsewhere. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indentured_servant
