OpenStudy (jillian_math):

A soccer pitch is about 110 m long. A model of the soccer pitch is made using a scale of 1:70. Determine the length of the model to the nearest centimetre, if necessary. Select one: a. 2 cm b. 16 cm c. 1571 cm d. 157 cm

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

Sorry the proportion was wrong.

OpenStudy (jillian_math):

no worries

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

So we know that we are dealing with two different units: meters and centimeters. We need to convert one of them, preferably the 110 meters to the centimeters. We know that 1 meter = 100 cm. How many cm is 110 m?

OpenStudy (jillian_math):

11000

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

Correct.

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

Now we also know that according to the ratio, for every 1 meter that was displayed in the model 70 meters was actually pitched. So to find this out we need to divide 11000 cm by 70 cm.

OpenStudy (jillian_math):

i closed this question but im still listening, don't worry

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

@Jillian_math

OpenStudy (jillian_math):

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

You're welcome :) So the answer?

OpenStudy (jillian_math):

157 cm

OpenStudy (calculusxy):
