Rational numbers are finite, meaning that they will end or they will follow a pattern (ex. 3.33333333333333... will never end, but it's repeating, so it's rational). Irrational numbers never end and never repeat (ex. Pi never ends but it doesn't follow a pattern, so it can't be rational).
