OpenStudy (prof_cutederp):

What is the MEAN ABSOLUTE DEVIATION for the following set of numbers: {106, 106, 92, 96, 92, 104}

OpenStudy (welshfella):

Fist find the mean. can you do that?

OpenStudy (prof_cutederp):

596

OpenStudy (will.h):

divide that on 6 (The number of the set figures )

OpenStudy (prof_cutederp):

99.333

OpenStudy (prof_cutederp):

@Will.H

OpenStudy (will.h):

so thats the answer tho! isnt that what you ask for?

OpenStudy (prof_cutederp):

mean absolute deviation?

OpenStudy (will.h):

am not sure tbh, thats the mean tho that we found. is the mean absolute deviation is the same as standard deviation formula?

OpenStudy (prof_cutederp):

im not sure

OpenStudy (will.h):

if its asking for the regular mean then : Add all values/ the number of the values thats the right way to find the mean :)

OpenStudy (welshfella):

OK subtract the mean value ( use 99.33 and take the absolute (positive) value) from each of the 6 numbers . Then add up these 6 differences. Finally divide this result by 6 to give the MAD.
