hero (hero):
Open Study exists not for receiving answers but for learning concepts so that you know how to solve math problems for yourself.
OpenStudy (asad786):

The formula for TAN(angle) is opposite side OVER the adjacent side.
hero (hero):
What is the length of the side opposite angle P?
OpenStudy (asad786):
6
OpenStudy (asad786):
or Q
hero (hero):
Q is an angle, not a side.

OpenStudy (asad786):
so 6
hero (hero):
What is the length of the side adjacent to P?
OpenStudy (asad786):
what does adjacent mean srry
OpenStudy (asad786):
oh so 10
hero (hero):
adjacent means "nearest to". In this case, its the side nearest to P that is NOT the hypotenuse side.

OpenStudy (asad786):
so it is 6 or 8
hero (hero):
When trying to figure out which sides are involved with tangent you always ignore the hypotenuse side.
OpenStudy (asad786):
ok
hero (hero):
6 is the side opposite P. 8 is the side adjacent to P.
OpenStudy (asad786):
oh ok

hero (hero):
So Tan(P) = 6/8
which reduces to what?
OpenStudy (asad786):
3/4
OpenStudy (asad786):
so thats the answer?
hero (hero):
Okay, great.
