Well, this is a complicated question. 1) Slavery. This was what some people think is the cause of the Civil War. True, it was one of the main reasons, but slavery was not the ONLY cause. 2) Dred Scott Dred Scott was a man who wanted to be a citizen, and had traveled around the North with his master. After his master died, a ruckus started about weather Dred Scott could be a citizen or not. After about a year, Congress decided that Dred Scott should NOT be a citizen because he had African-American blood. 3)States' rights. This means the struggle over federal and/or states having power over the people. This worsened the arguments. There are WAY more things than I have said, though. actually i am from the south the reason was not slavery at all but freedom of choice. the south argued that slavery was a states right and were ignored when it was taken to congress thus leading to civil strife. i dont agree with slavery but states rights are very important
