Help with percents !

OpenStudy (amtran_bus):

Jane has 40 oz mixture of juice and seltzer that is 30 % juice. If she pours 10 more oz of juice into mixture, what % of mixture is seltzer?

OpenStudy (amtran_bus):

@Mehek14

OpenStudy (amtran_bus):

I know we have 28 oz seltzer

OpenStudy (magentama202):

Do you want my help???

OpenStudy (amtran_bus):

and you are adding 10 oz 28/50 But in those 10 oz is a small percent of seltzer too?

OpenStudy (magentama202):

In the 10 oz, it is only the juice being added. All of the seltzer is in the container and going to stay there.

OpenStudy (amtran_bus):

But the juice contains some seltzer!

OpenStudy (magentama202):

No, so they have a mix of juice and seltzer, and then there is 10 ox of just added. just juice.

OpenStudy (magentama202):

30% of 40 = 12, so there is 12 oz of juice. 10 more oz is added, so now you have 22 oz of juice. The whole mixture is now 40+12, or 52. You now need to find what 30 of 52 oz is in percent.

OpenStudy (magentama202):

can you try this???

OpenStudy (magentama202):

100*30/52=57.6923076923% I think this is what you're looking for... you may want to round it to 57.7% or something.

OpenStudy (amtran_bus):

Thanks I appreciate it.
