About posting questions in the right section. Comments follow.
??
At OS, I notice the "Where the boys (or girls) are" phenomenon. Many users would post questions on any subject "where the crowd is", which lately is mathematics. I have answered chemistry, biology, history, computer science, engineering, physics, photography questions in the math section in the last few days. I have also seen a computer science question in engineering, a geography question biology, ... Questions are all good questions, but the problem is the knowledgeable persons in the respective don't get to see their questions, and hence reduces the efficiency (and even quality) of the responses. I have always suggested them to post in the proper section, and go to the crowd to ask for help, with reference to the original question. But my efforts do not seem to be efficient. Is there an efficient way to inform users to post in the proper sections? Please voice your opinions, and suggestions, in the hope of improving our "service".
many of those sections don't have many active professionals as we are all volunteers, best thing you can do is introduce some people you know are good at that subject and ask the users to post it in the correct section and tag those users, for example, @sweetburger or @aaronq in chemistry, @Kainui in physics, @Abhisar in biology, @ilovepuppieslol or @wwhitlock in history, @AravindG can help in engineering and stuff, so like that
+1 I agree with @ilovepuppieslol :)
Well said.
im good in histoy,geography,math
Sounds like a good idea, referrals. Initially I was thinking OS could make an information campaign, or introduce an extra clause in the information sheet/document for new comers. I agree that referrals as suggested by @ILovePuppiesLol is a good way for the interim. Hope more people put their names down here, and continue to make suggestions for potential helpers in different topics. Please continue to make suggestions, and hopefully someone in OS development might organize or develop a strategy.
Is there a blue tab at the bottom right of the preview of the question saying a specific subject? If so It's a glitch, and it's happening to me right now
http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/574e01cfe4b056c4b3e60d37 A question I asked earlier. I see most mathematics post and biology posts in the OpenStudy feedback section, and it's a glitch. If it isn't a glitch,
I think there should be section tabs on the side which updates as there are questions asked, so people are aware of the section and that there are questions being asked. A quick sketch haha|dw:1464745175565:dw| really crappy drawing but I think it gets the idea across, I don't know if people just aren't aware of how to switch sections, but in any case the red box would be a new section and the blue circles showing a new question. Maybe something similar to that can be added, because I doubt people really look at all the chat tabs and this way you would always be aware haha. Just an idea idk if it would actually work D:
