OpenStudy (magentama202):

I've already done pt. A, I just need help with B: The table below shows the number of hours some business people in two states spend in meetings each week: State A 21 23 24 22 24 25 23 23 22 State B 24 22 20 23 23 50 20 46 21 Part A: Create a five-number summary and calculate the interquartile range for the two sets of data. Part B: Are the box plots symmetric? Justify your answer.

OpenStudy (phi):

symmetric means the left side "balances" the right side

OpenStudy (magentama202):

thanks! I forgot to close this because I actually figured it out a couple min after, but thanks anyways! If any other users are interested in getting an answer for pt. A and if anyone is willing to check this for me, here is my answer: Five point summary of state A: Five point summary of state B: Minimum: 21 Minimum: 20 Q1: 22 Q1: 20 Median: 23 Median: 22 Q3: 24 Q3: 35 Maximum: 25 Maximum: 50 IQR: 2 IQR: 15

OpenStudy (magentama202):

For B, you just make the box plots correct?? and then observe if they're "balanced"

OpenStudy (phi):

exactly, though looking at the numbers, the 2nd set looks very unsymmetrical but A looks pretty symmetric

OpenStudy (magentama202):

I would agree... these are the box and whisker plots I created as well...

OpenStudy (magentama202):

Thanks @phi for your help!!
