OpenStudy (machiahfaye):

.Why must farmers fertilize their fields, yet a temperate deciduous forest regenerates and recharges without any problem?

OpenStudy (amberlynnmaxwell):

The trees in the wild, compared to the ones we grow, are meant for not being taken care of. Back in the dinosaur ages, the tress there did not need to be taken care of. These genes are passed down through each generation of plants. When a crop is planted by a human so many times, like corn, they become dependent and rely on a source instead of being able to deal with their surroundings. Hopefully this wasn't too confusing for you :)
