Glad that you questioned someone's direct answer.

Another way to find the half way between two fractions is to double the denominators of each and add, for example:
average(3/5+7/10)=3/10+7/20=6/20+7/20=(6+7)/20=13/20
You can almost do that without pen and pencil.
