What is the value of x? A. 4 B. 4 square root 3 C. 8 D. 8 square root 3 https://static.k12.com/calms_media/media/1422500_1423000/1422767/1/52235abcda5a63ec3d6e60069a91f82606ac9fe4/MS_PA_131002_171216.jpg

OpenStudy (kidrah69):

Hi there! :-) Welcome To OpenStudy! Are you familiar with SOH CAH TOA?

OpenStudy (thecomputergeek):

Kind of... but not really, no.

OpenStudy (kidrah69):

SOH CAH TOA =Trig :P |dw:1465162517128:dw|

OpenStudy (kidrah69):

Which one would we use in this case? Any ideas?

OpenStudy (thecomputergeek):

SOH...?

OpenStudy (kidrah69):

Perfect :) We are given an angle measure so we need to make 2 fractions so that we can solve for x using cross multiplication think the OH in SOH \[\huge~\rm~\frac{ \sin(60) }{ 1 }=\frac{ ? }{ ? }\]

OpenStudy (thecomputergeek):

x over 16.. Right?

OpenStudy (kidrah69):

Perfect so we have: Perfect :) \[\huge~\rm~\frac{ \sin(60) }{ 1 }=\frac{ x }{ 16 }\] Any ideas on what we do next?

OpenStudy (thecomputergeek):

find out the sin(60)..

OpenStudy (kidrah69):

yep and what is sin(60)=?

OpenStudy (thecomputergeek):

-0.3048106211... Right? I used a calculator for this so I don't know...

OpenStudy (kidrah69):

Not sin-1 just sin(60) try again make sure you're using the right one

OpenStudy (thecomputergeek):

is it supposed to be in degrees? (sorry for the hassle..)

OpenStudy (kidrah69):

No not in degrees just normal and no worries :)

OpenStudy (thecomputergeek):

\[\sqrt{3}\] Is this it?

OpenStudy (kidrah69):

You should have gotten 0.87 (its rounded)

OpenStudy (kidrah69):

so we have: \huge~\rm~\frac{ \sin(60) }{ 1 }=\frac{ x }{ 16 }\[\huge~\rm~\frac{ 0.87 }{ 1 }=\frac{ x }{ 16 }\] And now you simply cross multiply

OpenStudy (thecomputergeek):

Thank you!

OpenStudy (kidrah69):

You're very welcome ^_^

OpenStudy (kidrah69):

You might need to convert from decimals to square root
