Help, I'll fan and medal Describe how the graph of y= x2 can be transformed to the graph of the given equation. y = (x-4)2-8

OpenStudy (hatahoochee):

Answers: Shift the graph of y = x2 right 4 units and then up 8 units. Shift the graph of y = x2 right 4 units and then down 8 units. Shift the graph of y = x2 left 4 units and then down 8 units. Shift the graph of y = x2 down 4 units and then left 8 units.

OpenStudy (kelvin8262):

Imagine you got a graph of y=x^2. think about what will happen to x if it is substracted by 4 and what will happen to y if it is substracted by 8

OpenStudy (hatahoochee):

I'm still a little confused @kelvin8262

OpenStudy (kelvin8262):

what do you confuse about?

OpenStudy (hatahoochee):

I just don't get it still, the whole thing @kelvin8262

OpenStudy (kelvin8262):

Okay. let me put it this way. think of a graph. y=x^2. you let the x substracted by 4. x-4. where will the point go? and y, it is substracted by 8, where will this point. which direction do they go? think about the negative.

OpenStudy (hatahoochee):

It will shift to the left and also down? @kelvin8262

OpenStudy (kelvin8262):

yeah. you got it. :)

Thank you so much!
