OpenStudy (keybox):

Can someone please help me with this I have 5 days of school left. (running out of time) Determine the range of possible side lengths of the third side AB of ABC from greatest to least. (AB has the line above it) ( before ABC there's a small triangle)

OpenStudy (keybox):

OpenStudy (keybox):

@mathstudent55

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

Any side of the triangle must be less than the other two sides. Let's think of a = 10 and b = 8. c = ? \(a < b + c\) \(10 < 8 + c\) \(2 < c\) \(b < a + c\) \(8 < 10 + c\) \(-2 < c\) \(c < a + b\) \(c < 10+8\) \(c < 18\) Range must be \(-2 < c < 18\)

OpenStudy (keybox):

so the answer would be a<x<b? @calculusxy

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

No. It would be \(-2 < c < 18\)

OpenStudy (keybox):

Okay my answer box looks like this I feel like I'm not on the same page. _<x<_ So do I write it like this? -2<x<18?

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

Yes

OpenStudy (keybox):

Okay thanks , I thought It was supposed to be letters like a b or c

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

It's just variables, so you can replace it with whatever you'd like (unless they specifically tell you in the directions).

OpenStudy (keybox):

Oh well they didn't tell me wether to use numbers or letters.
