Please help. Will fan and medal. c: The dot plot below shows the amount of time two random groups of students took to brush their teeth. (Picture will be added) Based on visual inspection of the dot plots, which of the following groups, if any, shows a greater average time required to brush their teeth?

OpenStudy (bangtankawaii):

OpenStudy (bangtankawaii):

@Vocaloid please help if you can. c:

OpenStudy (bangtankawaii):

@Mertsj

OpenStudy (bangtankawaii):

Please help. :(

OpenStudy (bangtankawaii):

I'm very confused on this problem.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Consider group R: 1 student takes 45 seconds to brush = 45 sec 2 students take 50 seconds to brush= 100 sec 1 student takes 55 sec = 55 sec 2 students take 60 sec = 120 sec Keep doing this and then divide the total seconds by the number of students to find the average.

OpenStudy (bangtankawaii):

Ok. But I did that the first time and it said I was wrong. :(

OpenStudy (bangtankawaii):

@Mertsj

OpenStudy (mertsj):

What did you get for the average for Group R?

OpenStudy (bangtankawaii):

Um. I got 1783

OpenStudy (bangtankawaii):

Sorry. I had to go look for my work.

OpenStudy (bangtankawaii):

Wait. I think I might've forgot to divide. I don't remember.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Yes. That would be the total.

OpenStudy (bangtankawaii):

Ok. So, what would I do now?

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Is that the total number of seconds for Group R or Group S?

OpenStudy (bangtankawaii):

Group R

OpenStudy (bangtankawaii):

I got 1446 for group S

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Divide by the number of students in Group R to get the average number of seconds per student.

OpenStudy (bangtankawaii):

Ok.

OpenStudy (bangtankawaii):

1783/21 = 84.9

OpenStudy (mertsj):

I got 1730/21 = 82.4

OpenStudy (bangtankawaii):

Hm.. I might've added wrong for the average.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

I missed the 55 score so I now get 1785/21=85

OpenStudy (bangtankawaii):

Ok. Well, I got 1783 for the average, but it's pretty close to yours.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

You mean you got 1783 for the total, not the average.

OpenStudy (bangtankawaii):

Oh. I think I forgot to put the choices.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Now do Group S

OpenStudy (bangtankawaii):

Here are the choices: A. Group R B. Group S C. Both groups show about the same average time. D. No conclusion about average time can be made from the data.

OpenStudy (bangtankawaii):

I got 1446 for Group S

OpenStudy (bangtankawaii):

I know A can be eliminated.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

I got 1445 And there are only 17 students in Group S

OpenStudy (bangtankawaii):

Yeah.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

It would have to end in a 0 or a 5 because all the addends are multiples of 5

OpenStudy (bangtankawaii):

85.05 is what I got from 1446/17

OpenStudy (mertsj):

If you use 1445, you get 85 again so I guess it must be C

OpenStudy (bangtankawaii):

Ok. Thanks. I'll try that answer and see if it's correct. Thanks again!

OpenStudy (mertsj):

You're welcome.
