OpenStudy (emilyisanemoji):

Solve the equation for x 9x = -5y

satellite73 (satellite73):

divide both sides by 9 which doesn't really mean "divide' it just means "write it "

satellite73 (satellite73):

i.e write x equals -5 y over 9

OpenStudy (emilyisanemoji):

i really dont get it

OpenStudy (nikkiv73):

You want X by itself. So you have to get rid of the number next to it. Do the opposite of what you see. A number beside an x means multiplied by. So if you do the opposite - divide, then you will get ride of it, leaving X by itself. You have to do that to both sides.
