not quite, a denomination is like a spin-off of something like how todays christian church has Baptists and Methodists. back in Henry the VIII's time there were two main ones other than the church of England.

Martin Luther (the founder of the Lutheran church had created a separate church from England and in fact its main point was that it showed what was wrong with the church up to that point ( which definitely didnt make the king happy)
