Zeronknight (zeronknight):

Now I know I need to "divide" when I actually multiply. But what do I do with the whole numbers?

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

change it to an improper fraction

OpenStudy (mww):

if you get mixed fractions convert them to improper fractions first

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

\[3 \frac{2}{5} = \frac{17}{5}\] \[\frac{\frac{17}{5}}{\frac{4}{5}} = \frac{17}{5}*\frac{5}{4} = \frac{17}{4} = 4 \frac{1}{4}\]

Zeronknight (zeronknight):

3 x 5 + 2 = 17?

Zeronknight (zeronknight):

17/5?

Zeronknight (zeronknight):

17/5 x 4/5?

Zeronknight (zeronknight):

68/25 25 x 2 = 50 2 18/25?

OpenStudy (math&ing001):

\[\frac{ 17 }{ 5 }*\frac{ 5 }{ 4 }=\frac{ 17 }{ 4 }=4\frac{ 1 }{ 4 }\]

OpenStudy (mww):

remember you have to take the reciprocal of 4/5 which is 5/4 to multiply (when you start off by dividing)
