Please help? will medal and fan Use the following data set (6, 4, 4, 5, 1, 8, 10, 7, 8, 6, 6, 7, 5, 4, 6) Add a box and whisker plot to a line graph. Clearly mark the ends of box by drawing vertical lines and labeling their values on the horizontal axis. What are the ends of the box and whisker plot? a) 1 and 6 b) 4 and 7 c) 4 and 8 d) 5 and 7

OpenStudy (emma):

here is the data set ordered: 1, 4, 4, 4, 5, 5, 6, 6, 6, 6, 7, 7, 8, 8, 10

OpenStudy (aveline):

@cutegirl1000 Try to give help, not answers ^^

OpenStudy (aveline):

...and she deleted her answer. Do you know how to make a box and whisker plot?

OpenStudy (emma):

yes I do but i am not so good at it so my answers aren't always correct @Aveline

OpenStudy (aveline):

Well, since you've ordered them, we can find out the answer fairly simply: 1, 4, 4, 4, 5, 5, 6, (6), 6, 6, 7, 7, 8, 8, 10 There are a total of 15 terms. 6 is the median. Now that we've found the middle number, we divide the set into two: 1, 4, 4, 4, 5, 5, 6, AND 6, 6, 7, 7, 8, 8, 10 The median of the set on the left is 4 and the median of the one on the right is 7. This is where you will put the left and right sides of your box.

OpenStudy (emma):

ya so the median is 6, the Q1 is 4 and the Q3 is 7. The ends of the box and whisker plot are the min and max right? @Aveline

OpenStudy (aveline):

Right

OpenStudy (emma):

hmm...well it has to be 4 and 8. am i correct @aveline

OpenStudy (aveline):

Why 8?

OpenStudy (emma):

because the max should be more than the Q3.

OpenStudy (aveline):

It's cut off, but that's a 10 on the far right.

OpenStudy (emma):

but the choices given don't have 10

OpenStudy (emma):

i'm guessing they consider that an outlier

OpenStudy (aveline):

The whiskers reach from 1 to 10, but the box reaches from 4 to 7 (sorry I messed up on the drawing.
