This is a really weird question, but take for example, the reaction CH3OOH (aq) -> CH3OO- + H2, how do you know what to split, not just for this question, but for any reaction, how do you know what goes together and what doesn't ?

sam (.sam.):

They're called weak acid dissociation. In your example we have CH3OOH|dw:1465466636941:dw|
