Functions f(x) and g(x) are shown below:
Using complete sentences, explain how to find the maximum value for each function and determine which function has the largest maximum y-value.
@welshfella @.Sam. @Whitemonsterbunny17 Help?

I've literally googled this question a million times, and have not gotten an answer...
For g(x) you can just read the maximum value - the top of the wave.
Okay, and that would have maximum value of 3. what about the function?
Are you familiar with the graph of cos x? what is the maximum value for cos x?
I think it's 1. Right?
Maximum of cosx = 1. Minimum of cosx = -1.
@seb.cal Mathematics exercise is to help you understand the material so that you can come up with an answer through your understanding. It is not about googling for an answer, or expecting a helper to give you the answer. Back to the question. Recall that in \(\large p(x)=a q(x)\) a is called a vertical scale factor. The value of "a" scales q(x). So if the maximum (or minimum) of q(x) is 1 (-1), then the maximum (minimum) of p(x) will become a (-a). Based on this, you can find the maximum value of f(x)=2 cos(x) since the max/min of cos(x) is +1/-1, and a = 2, you can find readily the maximum value of f(x). For g(x), work similarly, but first find the max/min of sin(x+pi).
