A 20g mass suspended from metre rod at 15cm mark while the rod is pivoted at 40cm mark weight of the rod will be 1) 50N 2) 0.5N 3) 5N

OpenStudy (shikamaru11):

O.o Is there anyone who can help me out

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

Draw a diagram

OpenStudy (shikamaru11):

|dw:1465586549537:dw| wight of the rod is at the centre

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

Weight times distance from pivot for the left = weight times distance from pivot for the right

OpenStudy (shikamaru11):

2 * 0.25 = 0.5N O.o after that step i can't understand

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

I don't have a clue what you are doing with those numbers. Find the weight on the left using W=mg. How far is the weigh on the left from the pivot? How far is the centre of mass of the rod from the pivot? weight*distance from pivot [on left] = weight*distance from pivot [on right]

OpenStudy (shikamaru11):

well i know and you're rite but these're the only numbers I'd that's why I asked

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

Use units, make things clear as to what you are doing. But first see my above post.

OpenStudy (shikamaru11):

okay got it

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

Okay, so...
