OpenStudy (rowanwhitethorn):

What is the standard equation of the circle with radius 5 and center (-3,-4)?

OpenStudy (mathmate):

The standard equation of a circle centred at (a,b) with radius r is given by \(\large (x-a)^2+(y-b)^2=r^2\) Substitute (a,b) by (-3,-4), and r by 5 to get the desired equation.

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Be very careful about the "-" signs when you do that substitution! Frequent source of error...

OpenStudy (mathmate):

@whpalmer4 Very true! :)
