Dilation will increase the size of the shape but keep the same ratio. Remember the distinction between similarity and congruence and you can figure this one out.

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

you want similar triangles, but not congruent. Similar means they have the same shape, but a different size. Congruent means identical (though the orientation may differ). Dilation (by itself) produces similar triangles. Translation and rotation (without dilation) produce congruent triangles. Given that, what do you think the answer should be?

OpenStudy (errinss):

idk to many big words, im scared *hides behind a pillow* help me understand it?

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

which words are too big? similar: same shape, different size, might be turned around or flipped over congruent: same shape, same size, might be turned around or flipped over

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

dilating by a scale factor just means each length is multiplied by the scale factor, but the angles all remain the same

OpenStudy (errinss):

all of them

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

if you are hoping that I will just give you the answer, today is not your lucky day. If you want to make some effort, I will help you.

Here are some explanations to help understand the big words. http://prntscr.com/bf19pc for translation http://prntscr.com/bf19l6 for rotation http://prntscr.com/bf19dq for Dilation Notice that contrary to the common meaning of the word dilation (which expands, as in dilation of the pupil, etc.) dilation in math transformation means simply that the figure is multiplied by a scale factor. Following is optional information for you: Scale factor of 1 means the image has the same size and orientation. Scale factor great than 1 means the image is larger, and same orientation. Scale factor less than 1 means the image is smaller, and same orientation. Scale factors less than one will also rotate 180 degrees about the centre of dilation. The absolute value of the scale factor determines the size of the image.
