Factor: 6x^3+31x^2-74x+21 Please explain how you got your answer

OpenStudy (polargirl12):

please help

OpenStudy (polargirl12):

\[6x ^{3}+31x^{2}-74x+21\]

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

One way is to graph the function https://www.desmos.com/calculator then identify one of the roots. In this case, the attached image shows (7,0) as one of the x intercepts. Do you know how to use polynomial long division or synthetic division?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

sorry I meant to say (-7,0) instead of (7,0)

OpenStudy (polargirl12):

yes i like to use the long division form

OpenStudy (polargirl12):

not synthetic

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so you'll need to divide `6x^3+31x^2-74x+21` over `x+7`

OpenStudy (polargirl12):

ok
