What are some signs that Captain Beatty wanted Montag to kill him in Farenheit 451?

OpenStudy (austinl):

It's been a while since I read the book, but I think the main reason was his previous (or maybe not so previous) love of literature. He knows more about books and what they represent than what Montag could ever begin to comprehend. In the end he put himself in a situation where he most likely was going to die. He the nantagonized Montag until the point he killed him. I am not so sure it was a concious decision, rather his subconscience helping him out. He also did not seem like the type to kill himself, rather he coerced someone else into doing it for him.
