OpenStudy (pphalke):

I need help I cant decide between two answers B and C

OpenStudy (pphalke):

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

Numbers that are divisible by 4... are they going to be even numbers?

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

Think about what numbers are in the original set. Even numbers between 1 and 21.

OpenStudy (pphalke):

@agent0smith no maybe 2 is but the rest I don't know

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

x is an even number between 1 and 21. List all even numbers between 1 and 21.

OpenStudy (pphalke):

2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20 do u understand what I am asking?

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

Now look at B - list all the numbers divisible by 4 between 1 and 21.

OpenStudy (pphalke):

I think 2 is one of them

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

I'm not sure what you're saying. 2 is one of what? This is the original set we're given in the question: {2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20} B is all the numbers divisible by 4, between 1 and 21 - I'd list them so you can see whether or not it is a subset of the original, if you're unsure.

OpenStudy (pphalke):

yes I am unsure I don't know subset

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

Subset means it's a part of the original set. Eg: if this is set A: {2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20} and this is set B: {2, 4, 6} Then B is a subset of A, since all the numbers in B, are also in A.

OpenStudy (pphalke):

would the answer be D for the question

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

Look at choice B - list all the numbers divisible by 4 between 1 and 21. Write them all out. See if it's a subset of the original.

OpenStudy (pphalke):

2, 8, 12 I think are divisible by 4

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

There's more...

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

And 2 is not divisible by 4 :/

OpenStudy (pphalke):

16 20 40

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

List ALL the numbers that are divisible by 4, between 1 and 21.

OpenStudy (pphalke):

,4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32, 36 . . .

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

"...between 1 and 21"

OpenStudy (pphalke):

4,8,12,16 and 20

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

Now compare to the original set... is that a subset of it? Original: {2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20} This one: {4, 8, 12, 16, 20}

OpenStudy (pphalke):

no I don't think so

OpenStudy (pphalke):

so @agent0smith the answer would be D

OpenStudy (pphalke):

I mean B

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

Original: {2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20} This one: {4, 8, 12, 16, 20} Are all the numbers in the bottom set in the original set?

OpenStudy (pphalke):

not all of them

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

Look at all the numbers in the bottom set. Then look at all the numbers in the original set.

OpenStudy (pphalke):

no they are not in the original

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

Damn dude. Look harder. Original: |dw:1465865719654:dw| This one: {4, 8, 12, 16, 20}

OpenStudy (pphalke):

yes the original set has the same numbers as the list made

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

I don't know why you couldn't see that for yourself earlier... Now look at option C Original: {2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20} Option C: {6, 9, 12}

OpenStudy (pphalke):

I see so C is the answer

OpenStudy (pphalke):

@agent0smith is C right

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

You tell me. Original: {2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20} Option C: {6, 9, 12} Are all the numbers in option C, in the original set?

OpenStudy (pphalke):

no

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

Tell me which ones are in the original set then, and which ones are not?

OpenStudy (pphalke):

6 and 12 are in the original set 9 isnt

OpenStudy (pphalke):

I put the answer as C @agent0smith
