In a response of two to three sentences, explain how these lines contribute to Grendel's characterization as a monster. "Fell and frantic, and forced from their slumbers Thirty of thanemen; thence he departed Leaping and laughing, his lair to return to, With surfeit of slaughter sallying homeward."
In regards to Beowulf, "Fell and Frantic, and forced from their Slumbers" -Grendel woke the thanes, surprising them. "Thirty of Thanemen Thence he Departed" -I assume in these lines he killed the 30 thanemen the first night, and retreated. "Leaping and Laughing, his lair to return to," -He was happy about the killing. "With Surfeit Of Slaughter, Sallying Homeward." Surfeit means an excessive amount, so he Slaughtered an Excessive amount of them, and Happily went Home Hope this helps!
