I am totally lost for ideas on this paper. Please help!

"For this project, you will write a research paper on a specific historical event and how it has shaped modern American society. Your paper will answer the question How does this event shape modern American society?

For example, what was one significant shift in how the United States participated in world affairs that took place during the first half of the twentieth century, and how did that shift help create the nation's role in world affairs today?"

you could do a major event that caused rules and guidelines to be made or you could do a historical event that has helped our society .

here are just some ideas : WWII , 9/11 , the great depression( the great depression is a good one cause it created new banking systems so it doesn't happen again) , or you could do a more recent one like the shooting in Connecticut. i hope i helped a little
