First compare the fractions 1/3 and 2/5 (without the negative signs). Then when you use the negative signs, the comparison is the opposite. For example 8 > 5, but -8 < -5.

Using a calculator, we get: 1/3 = 0.33333333... 2/5 = 0.4 Which symbol (>, <, or =) goes between 1/3 and 2/5 below? 1/3 ____ 2/5

Then when you change the signs to negative -1/3 ___ -2/5, reverse the symbol that you used above.
