Can someone in the know give an update on restoring accounts erased because of the birthday glitch? Is work on this in progress? Is it not possible? Has anyone seen anything official on this?

I'm not even sure it matters with the merger, but still, it sucks to be left hanging for this long. If it's not possible, or they've decided not to pursue it, I wish they'd just say so.

Guys, I am sorry for those that lost their accounts.  I suggest you create a new account with the old user name - if possible.  We are working very hard to evaluate if we can restore some of that activity.  But it is going to take time.  In the meantime - come back, enjoy summer with us and pick up the challenge of "How long will it take you to get back to where you were before"
