OpenStudy (haku):

Do you think it is possible to reach a state on Earth of NOT being dependent on the Sun for energy?

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

No. Definitely not. The sun delivers an insane amount of energy to Earth. But google it if you want more info.

OpenStudy (mrnood):

The only energy available to us that did not originate from the sun is nuclear or geothermal. However - these are just the 'consumables. Plants absorb energy from the sun to grow, the water cycle is driven by enrgy from the sun, the planet would freeze over without energy from the sun SO It is just (but remotely imo) possible that humans could find a way to generate consumable energy which was not ultimately dependent on solar - but the planet would die without solar energy without doubt
