Somewhat related and interesting to me, I think Pasteur was the first person to recognize this. I believe he ended up using chirality as a test for confirming microorganisms existed or something along these lines. I can't recall if it was him that came up with this, but supposedly you can easily synthesize a racemic mix of a molecule, then contaminate it with microorganisms which will only eat one of the chiral forms leaving the other handed molecule behind. Then you can continue on and perhaps use that chiral molecule left behind to make whatever chiral thing you want. Or even find some way to reverse the stereochemistry idk. At any rate, it's an interesting idea.
