first of all you have to modify the shape of the equations. how? basically by making the varuables in one side. for example in the first equation you need to either make x or y in one side. see below. \[2x - 4y = 24\] therefore make y in one side \[-4y=-2x + 24\] divide both sides on -4 \[y= -2x/-4 + 24/-4\] therefore \[y= 1/2 x -6\] now since we had y in one side you will need to plug the answer of y in the second equation like the following to solve for x instead of y in the second equation we will. \[4x - 12(1/2)x - 6) =36\] solve for x and to get the value of y you will need to plug the value of x in the second equation.
