do the power inside brackets first... The rule goes \[(a^m)^n = a^{mn}\] i.e. power raised by a second power becomes a product of the powers

I've used "power" and "exponent interchangeably for years. I thought most people did. Is there something more specific you are correcting, @kinged ?

yes power, exponent, index are the same thing though exponent is very textbook like
