Brian wants to build a ramp that leads to a storeroom 5 meters above the ground. He wants the ramp to be 10 meters long. What should the angle of elevation of the ramp be? 15 degrees 30 degrees 45 degrees 60 degrees

OpenStudy (greenbannanabob):

So let's visualize this |dw:1466615876093:dw|

OpenStudy (greenbannanabob):

Do you know about special right triangles?

OpenStudy (09h8822332e43):

no I have never heard of them

OpenStudy (greenbannanabob):

Okay. It's not that hard and the only two I would think you need to know are the 45-45-90 triangle and the 30-60-90 triangle. The 45-45-90 triangle isosceles right triangles and the rule states that if a right triangle is an isosceles triangle, the other two angles beside the 90 degree angle are 45 degrees. The 30-60-90 triangle states that if the hypotenuse is twice the size of one leg and another leg is the length of that leg by sqrt(3), then the angles are 30-60-90. I know that was a bit long and complicated but if you don't understand, here is a picture

OpenStudy (greenbannanabob):

If you still don't understand, I suggest taking a quick look at this website: http://www.regentsprep.org/regents/math/algtrig/att2/Ltri30.htm

OpenStudy (09h8822332e43):

thanks but 90 isn't a choice so is it 60?

OpenStudy (greenbannanabob):

No, let's look at that drawing I put earlier. If you notice, the hypotenuse, which is the ramp that is 10 meters long, is twice the length of the height, which is one of the legs. That shows that this is a 30-60-90 triangle. This means that: |dw:1466616883092:dw| So what is the angle of elevation?
