Will Fan and Medal!!!!! Can you compare life in the 1920s to life today? Are the same things happening today as those that occurred during the 1920s? Is history repeating itself?
Welcome to Open Study : ) he roots did start in the 1920s, but the worst of it was in the 1930s. Actually, it's roots start even earlier, in that WW1 was a direct cause of WW2 and WW2 added to the misery. The german people not only had to pay retribution for WW1 but also had the depression going on, and that made them vulnerable to hitler's propaganda machine. We too have wars going on. The difference is back then people held the assumption that wars improve an economy, and it has in the past, but it is contributing to the decline of economies right now. There are many similarities and some differences. Bread lines have become almost invisible via food banks. The unemployment rate was much higher. The starvation was wider in most countries...the roots of the dust bowl, which greatly contributed to the depression, started in the 1920s. There are greater government controls over agriculture now designed to prevent another catastrophe such as the surplus of wheat that rotted on the ground in the US...unable to sell the wheat because no one could afford it, they just planted even more to cover their losses. We too have environmental calamity going on, in hurricanes, tornados, and riding sea levels with melting polar icecaps. They had rationing with coupons, we do not. Yes, this could be happening again, and only time will tell. Hope this helps
