The American Civil War's main cause would be the slavery issue, which divided the country deeply. The North, or the 'Union', was anti-slavery, while the South, which became known as the Confederacy, was pro-slavery. The main consequence of the American Civil War was the abolition of slavery after the Union won the conflict.
